Directory - The Sushi Menu
Jacky Roger Editor
Description
A
great and insightful introduction to Sushi. A beautifully
illustrated guide that talks you through the food, how
to eat it and even how to order in Japanese. It's pocket
size and ideal to take along to a restaurant or for
travel to Japan.
Superb!

Well
I was not expecting this little book (or its companion
'The Japanese Menu') to be this good. Usually these
kind of books fall down on their presentation and
on the language side, but the editors have done a
really professional job on both fronts. Perhaps the
difference is that these kind of books are usually
produced in Japan for expats over there and are a
bit hit and miss - while these books are produced
in London (presumably for people going to Japanese
restaurants in Europe?).
The
first 64 pages are illustrations and descriptions
of sushi, 65 - 86 is "about sushi" and 87-111
is "kaiwa" (conversation) and vocabulary.
Throughout romaji is used, but the sushi pages have
the Japanese script (hiragana or kanji as appropriate)
even if the vocabulary section does not. The French,
German, Italian and Spanish translations on every
page also seem very well done, and often as informative
as the Japanese! (I can't comment on the Portuguese).
Definitely
carry this with you to Japan.
Great sushi information and how to order it in Japanese!

This
is a great guide to first those newly initiated into
Sushi . . . it makes a really cool gift because it's
full of beautiful photographs.
