Recipe for family meals :

Molasses Taffy

It is many years since Hub-UK was first launched. It has been created from recipes contributed form all over the world, from professionals and amateurs alike. A great many of the recipes do not have any details as to who sent them in or from where they came. It would be a shame not to share them with you for this reason alone.

This recipe is one such recipe. If you know where it originated, or perhaps it is even yours, let me know and I will add the necessary credits and acknowledgements.

"The most indispensable ingredient of all good home cooking - love, for those you are cooking for" ~ Sophia Loren.

Ingredients

2 cups molasses
1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup water
1/8 teaspoon soda
4 tablespoons butter
½ teaspoon vanilla

Method

  • Cook the molasses, sugar and water slowly to the hard-ball stage (127°C), stirring during the latter part of the cooking to prevent its burning.
  • Remove from the heat and add the butter, soda and vanilla and stir enough to mix.
  • Pour into a greased pan and, when cool enough to handle, pull it until it becomes light in colour.
  • Stretch it into a long rope and cut with scissors into small pieces.
